Curious about pressing societal issues such as climate crisis and labour market discrimination? Organised by the University of Oxford’s Department of Economics, a webinar series titled “What Economists Really Do” aims to demystify these topics and galvanise action.
In our pioneer collaboration with Oxford University on the webinar series, EBC Financial Group delved into the topic of “The Economics of Tax Evasion”. Our CEO of EBC Financial Group (UK) Ltd., David Barrett, joined hosts Abi Adams, Professor of Economics, and Sarah Clifford, Associate Professor at the Department of Economics to explore real-world cases in the finance industry, regulatory dynamics, and the societal impact of tax evasion. At a dynamic Q&A segment, he also shared his extensive experience and invaluable insights to a global audience.
The University of Oxford’s Department of Economics is globally renowned for its impactful research, influential policy contributions, and vibrant early-career community. It boasts esteemed undergraduate and graduate programs, making it one of the largest and most diverse academic communities of economists.
The webinar series is part of ongoing efforts by University of Oxford economists to work with governments and businesses around the world to improve policy and make the economy work better for everyone. Their focus areas resonate with EBC’s corporate social responsibility initiatives and commitment to propel societal progress through education and talent development.
We believe that being able to make an impact through education by making economic research accessible to the public and ensuring a clear understanding of its relevance in our daily lives is profound in shaping our future to come.
“It is our honour to collaborate with the Department of Economics at the University of Oxford. We feel that the University’s series ‘What Economists Really Do’ links academic work with real-world implications of economic research and education. Previous webinars tackled crucial societal issues, and the upcoming episodes promise more relevant and in-depth discussions on the world we live in”, said David.
Oxford University was just as delighted to have EBC on board. Professor Abi Adams shared: “‘What Economists Really Do’ is one of the ways in which the Department shows how economics can be used to improve policy and make the economy work better for everyone. We are pleased that EBC Financial Group can provide their industry perspectives in this webinar on how tax is collected (or not) in today’s complex global economy”.
By supporting initiatives that foster sustainable, knowledge-driven societies, we are investing in public education to bridge information gaps among stakeholders. Recognising the influence of opinion leaders on novice traders and the associated risks, we also firmly advocate for equality in investment through public education. Through this partnership, we aim to enhance public understanding of economic research and its implications, reinforcing financial literacy and fostering an informed and inclusive investment environment.
All funds sponsored by us as part of the webinar series will be used to support the Department’s graduate student scholarship fund.
