To improve access to malaria prevention and health services, EBC Financial Group (EBC) has partnered with the UN Foundation to support their “United to Beat Malaria” campaign. Malaria, a mosquito-borne disease, is a major health challenge in Africa, claiming over 600,000 lives annually. It disproportionately affects young children, pregnant women, displaced populations, and remote communities. Despite available prevention and treatment tools, millions still lack access to these interventions.
Margaret McDonnell, Executive Director of United to Beat Malaria, emphasised the partnership’s importance: “Our partnership with EBC is built on a shared commitment to protect the world’s most vulnerable children and families from this deadly yet preventable disease. EBC’s support will enable our campaign to reach at-risk communities and deliver life-saving interventions in malaria-endemic countries to save and improve lives”.
We were invited by the UN Foundation to participate in the 2024 United to Beat Malaria Leadership Summit held in Washington, D.C. from 10-12 March earlier this year to discuss the fight against malaria with members of the UN Foundation, representatives of the U.S. Congress, and members of the World Health Organization. The summit brought together global leaders, health experts, policymakers, advocates, and community representatives to strengthen initiatives and accelerate malaria eradication.
Keynote speakers, including McDonnell and Dr. Daniel Ngamije of the World Health Organization, discussed using artificial intelligence and mathematical modeling to predict malaria transmission risks and address challenges in malaria-prone regions.
Expressing his excitement about joining the global effort against Malaria, David Barrett, CEO of EBC Financial Group (UK) Ltd., said: “Being invited to United to Beat Malaria’s 2024 Leadership Summit and witnessing the advocacy in action was not only a tremendous privilege but also an enlightening experience for me. Seeing firsthand the impact that EBC Group can have by actively engaging with organisations like United to Beat Malaria reaffirms our commitment to making a difference in the communities we serve”.
In April and May, EBC teams from across our network also participated in the Move Against Malaria 5K charity run to raise awareness and funds for the development of life-saving malaria treatment equipment and programmes. Collectively we have helped the “United to Beat Malaria” campaign to purchase and distribute mosquito nets to protect nearly 20,000 people in the Democratic Republic of the Congo thus far.
Through our collaboration with the UN Foundation and more, we look forward to deepening our engagement on crucial global health initiatives with likeminded partners. Together, we pledge to raise awareness about health disparities, promote inclusivity, and ultimately, create a healthier, more equitable world.
